Haus Lange was realized by Mies van der Rohe in 1928 and was donated to the city of Krefeld around 1960. The cultural department of the city changed the villa into a museum of experimental art. In 1970 Haus-Rucker-Co was invited by director Paul Wember to develop an exhibition-concept. Our proposal to created an synthetic reservation around the building, by covering the villa with an air supported structure was accepted by the museum and realized. In march 1971 the exhibition scenario was opened up to the public and performed as a dystopic scenario of a prospective introverted life in case the pollution of the environment would proceed.
Subsequenly COVER influenced our work in the first half of the seventies. Projects like Oasis Nr 7, Rooftop Garden, Matterhorn have the aim to produce awareness for the landscape of culture we are living in.
